LCD Soundsystem R.I.P.? (from the daily swarm)

Tuesday, November 18, 2008, 06:31 PM GMT [General]

    by Sean Adams

News has surfaced that it might all be over for the hugely influential LCD Soundsystem.

Al Doyle, who plays guitar for US dance act LCD Soundsystem (and is also in Hot Chip) told BBC 6Music (reported in full here) that "I don't think James is going to do anything more under that name [LCD Soundsystem]. I think he'd like to do something with the same personnel possibly next year."

Doyle goes on to reveal "We were thinking of doing something where we find a lot of the old disco singers in New York that might still be around from the 70s, and get them in as guest vocalists with LCD as a backing band, and tour around as a disco heroes style show... It's just an idea that we had. God knows if we'll make it happen."

This news follows a special James Murphy disco night at new super-club matter but more significantly news (reported by NME) that Mister Murphy has started a new to-be-moniker'd "rock" band with Pat Maloney plus two of the guys from little known band Hockey Night.

Deftones' Chi Cheng injured - Bass player involved in car crash

Thursday, November 6, 2008, 06:25 PM GMT [General]

From the AP: The bass player for the Deftones is in a San Jose hospital following a serious car crash.

The rock band's singer, Chino Moreno, says 38-year-old Chi Cheng was injured in the crash Monday in Santa Clara. Moreno told the Sacramento Bee that he didn't have many details but that it's "very serious."

The Deftones came together in Sacramento in 1988 and released their first album in 1995 on Madonna's Maverick Records label. A song on their 2000 album, "White Pony," earned the band a Grammy Award for best metal performance.

The Deftones have been working on their sixth album for release next spring.

The song we can hear in the begining of the interview of 'The submarines' is the music of iphone/ipod touch commercial in France.

Another great interview - nice tidbit on Blake Hazard - pretty cool! Fitzgerald was one of my favorite authors in high school. All his books are great, but "Tender Is The Night" is the one I've read the most times. Painfully autobiographical, but a masterpiece in its own right.

Thanks for posting this video! I look forward to hearing more from The Submarines.

    'Ello.

I live in England and can't listen to your station (dammit) but I've been watching the videos and interviews. I couldn't resist signing up for the sole purpose of telling you how much you absolutely rocked that Mummy outfit. Sheer genius.

There are so many British/Australian acts that you've probably never heard of that I would love to tell you about so you can go and check them out (they're on myspace, most of their addresses are just the same as their names - I've listed the exceptions):

    Astrid Williamson
    Murray James (murrayjamesmusic)
    Anna-Maria La Spina
    Antigone (antigoneland)
    Etherfox (etherfoxrox)
    Temposhark

I'm really sorry if this isn't the best place to post this but you really have to check these people out. You poor deprived Americans don't know what you're missing ;)

Anyway, you rock the undead world.

    Thanks for the fun

    Hi!
I just wanted to tell you how much I am enjoying the artist interviews - my faves so far have been Cut Copy, Hercules & Love Affair and Darker My Love. In fact, I liked them so much that I went and bought their cd's - so thank you for the opportunity to hear them played here! And, I just finished the in-studio performances by Pacha Massive - AMAZING!! I love the flute and saxophones, they give each track a nice distinctive vibe. I am curious though, how do you decide which artists to interview and feature? I think it's fantastic that you give them a chance for their music to be heard. I can't wait to see who'll be next.

    Great Job!!
