The Obligatory My Chemical Romance Love Post
I am kind of depressing myself right now for some awkward reason. I have convinced myself that I am going to be single forever watching Sci-Fi and CSI with cats instead of dating. Like I am now. Only FOREVER! And with cats!
So I went on youtube and started watching My Chemical Romance videos because I don't watch music television anymore and am out of the music video loop and MCR has this ability to cheer me up despite their apparent gloominess.
What is also completely amusing about MCR is that Marilyn Manson tried to pick a fight with them and wrote a song about them copying him or whatever. How hilarious. I mean I like Marylin Manson and everything but the dude did not invent wearing makeup and being gloomy or whatever he is accusing them of. If anything they are copying the Misfits who are one of their musical inspirations and who are made of much more win. ANYWAY!
I decided to make a list of my all time favorite MCR songs (with video if applicable):
From Bullets: This album has neither Frank nor Bob on it, which is kind of depressing sometimes because I have moments where I make no sense. I blame sleep deprivation.
Our Lady of Sorrows- The guitar intro on this is killer, but not done by Frank. I also love the lyrics. MCR has this way with lyrics that just always entraps me. Kind of like AFI but without a lot of three dollar words. MCR would be even cooler with three dollar words. Imagine MCR using words like disassociate? Geez.
Vampires Will Never Hurt You. It's weird that I like this song because I HATE vampires. I don't like fantasy anne rice vampire books. So a whole song about vampires should be on the bottom of my list, but this band seriously made me like it because of the first person narrative and the brilliant imagery that the lyrics provoke. The whispering in the song is great too.
Early Sunsets Over Monroeville. This song is just calming. The guitar is particularly lovely.
Three Cheers: Unfortunately, this album does not have Bob on it either, but he does appear in all the videos.
The Ghost of You- This was the first song of theirs I really got into. My sister gave me a burnt cd and when I got to this song I was completely in love. Then they made the WWII inspired video, which would normally irritate me, but I actually liked it. Then Gerard does that weird wavy hand gesture in the middle of it and you are like "Gerard. Are you having a seizure? Do you need medical help? Mikey call 911!" And the transition from the bar scene to the waterfront scene is brilliant.
A funny story about this song is that my friend sang it so much that her sister will start singing "Never coming home! Never coming home!" in this hilarious voice to mock her. Which is great because it gets her all pissy and embarrassed.
Cemetary drive- The drums! Oh geez. The drums in this is fabulous (but not Bob!). I hear it and just get all excited and of course the lyrics are great. It's like this weird sort of anthem.
The jetset life will kill you (Video is guitar hero version. Which is completely hilarious). It took me forever to learn the words to this because I am notorious for being horrible with lyrics.
Black Parade: All the members played on this one yay!
I don't love you. My absolute favorite off of the album. It's hard to describe the love I have for this song.
Cancer. The piano on this is perfect. I have a thing for pianos and they just exploited it mercilessly. Jerks.
Disenchanted. The lighter waving song. If I owned a lighter I would wave it whenever I heard this song. What a great song about life. I like to apply it to my life in high school and college and probably now. And six years from now... Which sounds ridiculous because it's often hard to explain an intense love for a song that will mean nothing to other people.
Famous Last words- Bob caught on fire and kept playing to finish the video. Bob is the man you guys. The song is great. I can't explain it. This is getting ridiculous. I can't explain my love for this band properly. "I am not afraid to walk this world alone!" YEAH! That's right!
Blood. Ok you guys. My friend and I have this song memorized and will sing it at random. it's pretty much fabulous. it cheers you up instantly. Seriously. Like when you hear Ob-la-di Ob-la-da by the Beatles. You just start clapping like you were born to clap and singing and having fun. Except this song involves blood? Woops?
There are non-album songs and covers that have also won my heart but I'll spare you that and leave you with my favorite moment of all time:
The End
